Water-based road marking coating

Water-based road marking coatings are free of organic solvents, making them green and environmentally friendly. They have excellent reflective effects, which are particularly noticeable on rainy nights. They have good recoating properties, eliminating the need for line removal, and thus reducing construction costs.

It has been nearly a decade since water-based road marking coatings were launched in the domestic market. However, they have left people with the consistent impression of poor adhesion (insecurity) and low wear resistance (short service life). For more than 20 years, our company has been engaged in the research, development, production and promotion of road marking coatings. In view of the fact that water-based coatings, such excellent green products, are difficult to be applied on a large scale in China while being widely used in developed countries such as the United States and Australia with good results, we have conducted a series of investigations. We summarize that there are two main reasons for the unsatisfactory application of water-based markings in China:

1. The main problem lies in the unreasonable construction technology.

2. The construction equipment fails to meet the construction requirements.

Over the past three years, we have independently developed vehicle-mounted water-based marking equipment (this equipment can achieve a spraying thickness of more than 0.7mm, ensuring that the coating consumption per square meter is about 1.2kg). Using emulsions from The Dow Chemical Company of the United States, the water-based marking coatings produced by us have been widely applied in projects such as Hangzhou-Changxing Expressway, Hangzhou 02 Provincial Highway, Pudong, Middle Ring Road, Shanghai A15 Expressway, and Shaanxi Airport Expressway, achieving good social and economic benefits.

Green and environmentally friendly: With high solid content and no organic solvents, it is harmless to the human body and non-polluting to the environment in both production and construction stages.

Tough and wear-resistant: The high solid content of the water-based coating and its inherent properties enable it to have good adhesion to glass beads, which is unmatched by other coatings. The excellent toughness of the coating film, combined with the high-strength wear resistance of the beads, endows the water-based marking with an ultra-long service life.

Good reflectivity: As long as the coating film of the water-based marking reaches about 0.7mm and is matched with large-particle reflective beads with good adhesion, it will have a very bright reflective effect at night.

Rainy night reflectivity: Due to the unique composition and structure of the water-based marking, it has weak hydrophilicity. Even on rainy nights, the reflective effect is very obvious. When matched with an appropriate amount of reflective microcrystalline ceramic beads, the reflective effect is extremely excellent even when immersed in water.
