After the construction of road marking paint, sanding is a common problem, especially in areas with heavy traffic flow and harsh climatic conditions. Sanding not only affects the appearance and service life of the markings but also may pose hidden dangers to traffic safety. Therefore, it is crucial to take effective measures to prevent sanding. The following discusses in detail how to prevent sanding of road marking paint from aspects such as material selection, construction technology, and post-maintenance.

 I. Material Selection

High-quality coatings Choosing high-quality marking paint is the basis for preventing sanding. High-quality coatings have better adhesion, wear resistance, and weather resistance, and can effectively resist the impact of external factors such as vehicle rolling and climate changes. Common marking paints include hot-melt, solvent-based, and water-based paints. Among them, hot-melt paint is widely used due to its excellent wear resistance and durability.

Filler selection Fillers are an important part of marking paint, and their quality and type directly affect the performance of the paint. Choosing fillers with high hardness and uniform particle size distribution, such as quartz sand and glass beads, can improve the wear resistance and skid resistance of the paint and reduce sanding.

Use of additives Adding an appropriate amount of additives such as plasticizers and stabilizers to the paint can improve the flexibility and adhesion of the paint, enhance its crack resistance and wear resistance, thereby reducing the occurrence of sanding.

 II. Construction Technology

Base surface treatment Before construction, the road surface must be thoroughly cleaned to remove impurities such as oil stains, dust, and loose particles, ensuring that the base surface is dry, flat, and solid. For old markings, they should be completely removed or polished to improve the adhesion of the paint.

Paint proportioning Mix strictly in accordance with the proportioning requirements of the paint manufacturer to ensure the uniformity and stability of each component of the paint. Over-dilute or over-thick paint will affect its adhesion and wear resistance, increasing the risk of sanding.

Construction temperature The ambient temperature and road surface temperature during construction have an important impact on the curing effect of the paint. Generally speaking, the construction temperature should be controlled above 5°C, and construction under high temperature, low temperature, or high humidity conditions should be avoided to ensure that the paint can fully cure and form a solid marking.

Construction thickness Control the construction thickness of the marking paint. Too thin a thickness may lead to insufficient wear resistance, while too thick a thickness may affect the adhesion and curing effect of the paint. Generally, the construction thickness of hot-melt paint should be controlled between 1.5-2.5 millimeters, and that of solvent-based and water-based paints should be controlled between 0.3-0.5 millimeters.

Construction speed Excessively fast construction speed may lead to uneven distribution of the paint, affecting its adhesion and wear resistance. The construction speed should be reasonably controlled according to the type of paint and construction conditions to ensure that the paint can cover the road surface evenly and fully.
